Material Test Standards
- Corrosion Protection: Wire shall be zinc coated to BSEN10244-2; 2000.
- Wire Diameter: BS 1052 and tolerances meet BS 443-82.
- Wire Tensile Strength of 350-500N/mm2: According to EN10223-3, BS1052/80 and ASTM A641-97. (The figures above are of the wire prior to manufacturing mesh).
- Tolerances on diameter of galvanized wire are in accordance with EN10218, ASTM A975-97.
- Elongation at break is min 10% and test to be carried out on a sample of minimum 25cm long before manufacturing (EN10223-3) or No less than 12% in accordance with ASTM A370-92
Wire Diameter of HDG/Galfan Gabions
- Diameter of Mesh Wire: No less than 3.05 mm.
- Coating of Wire: No less than 24.05g/0.929 cubic meter.
- Diameter of Selvedge Wire: No less than 3.87 mm.
- Coating of Wire: No less than 25.47g/0.929 cubic meter.
Wire Diameter of Extra PVC/HDPE Coated Gabions
- Diameter of Mesh Wire: No less than 2.69 mm, plus the PVC coating, total 3.708 mm.
- Coating of Wire: No less than 24.05g/0.929 cubic meter.
- Diameter of Selvedge Wire: No less than 3.40mm, plus the PVC coating, total 4.39 mm.
- Coating of Wire: No less than 25.47g/0.929 cubic meter.
Manufactruing Guide
- Our Gabions are single unit construction: The base, lid, ends, and sides shall be either woven into a single unit or edge of these members connected to the base section of the gabion in such a manner that strength an flexibility at the connecting point does not compromise the engineered structural design of the gabion.
- Where the length of the gabion exceeds on a one half its horizontal width, the gabion shall be divided by diaphragms of the same mesh and gauge as the body of the gabion, into cells whose length does not exceed the horizontal width.
- Gabions are furnished with the necessary diaphragms secured in proper position on the base in such a manner that no additional tying is required at this juncture.
- The selvedge wires are 20% larger in diameter than the core wire used in the gabion/rockfall netting roll construction.
- All connecting wires are looped around two mesh openings and the ends of the wires shall be securely twisted to prevent their loosening.
